These
classes are Honors Level only.
Time required will be between 5 and 7 hours a week.
- For
a student to enter the HS-9
class, he or she must have completed at least one research essay,
using MLA format (specified note taking, documentation of sources,
thesis statement, parenthetical references, incorporation of
quotes, Works Cited....) as taught in the Expository Writing
class. The student must also be an excellent writer, with
strong ability to organize paragraphs, use varied sentence structures,
and vivid details, as well as mastery of grammar, punctuation
and spelling rules.
- For
a student to enter the HS-10 class, he or she must have completed
at least 3 research essays (as described above), plus have completed
at least two essays of literature analysis (in MLA format),
as well as elements described in HS-9.
- For
a student to enter the HS-11
(American Lit) class, he or she must have completed at least
5 research essays (as described above), plus have completed
at least 4 essays of literature analysis (in MLA format), as
well as elements described in HS-9 and HS-10.
- For
a student to enter the HS-12 (British Literature) class, he or
she must have completed at least 6 research essays (as described
above), plus have completed at least 5 essays of literature
analysis (in MLA format), as well as elements described in HS-9,
HS-10, and HS-11.
- All
students must have very strong writing ability, including use
of varied sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar.
The "grade levels" are for the purposes of dividing the different
focuses of the curriculum for each year. Depending on a student's
writing experience, the "grade level" in which he or she may enroll
may be different from the student's actual grade level. This
class requires that student be enrolled and begin the first week
of class to complete the year long course (no late or mid-year enrollments).
