Service Description

Students will work to begin developing the basics of determining purpose, considering audience, and writing clear and coherent sentences and paragraphs that develop a central idea. This class will also help the student to become knowledgeable and comfortable with using their computer so that it may be used as a valuable tool in their education. Students will be learning spelling rules, vocabulary skills and how to use basic reference materials, sentence structure and parts of speech, punctuation, capitalization, basic grammar, writing a complete, coherent, and interesting paragraph that has purpose and considers audience. Age Suggestion: 9+ Main Course Sequence: follows Let's Write Sentences; precedes Fundamentals 2 No writing sample is required for registration in this course. Time Required: Approximately 2-3 hours per week. Extended Format: Extended format courses are only available during the summer and are offered with students' busy schedules in mind. Students enrolled in extended format courses will complete the same coursework, and instructors will uphold the same academic rigor--including learning through revision--as our traditional courses; however, students will have 11 weeks to complete coursework rather than the traditional 6 weeks. Students will work with their instructor to set up a personalized schedule for submitting assignments in order to meet the final deadline for the course. Because schedules are so individualized, THERE ARE NO LIVE CLASS MEETINGS IN EXTENDED FORMAT COURSES; instead, teachers will supply tailored transcripts for the student to review prior to diving into the week's assignments.
