Service Description
Students will develop the ability to write using different patterns of development, as well as strengthening topic sentences and organizing details within the paragraph. We will focus on sentence structure, transitions, cue words, grammar, and action verb usage, all of which will contribute to developing maturity in writing. Students will learn to write a descriptive paragraph, compare-contrast paragraph, characterization paragraph, narrative paragraph, process paragraph, and expository paragraph. Class is usually recommended to be repeated more than once, with more complex assignments each time. This challenging class is highly suitable for all ages from 14 through high school. Age Suggestion: 14+ Main Course Sequence: follows Beginning Persuasive Writing; often taken more than once; precedes Writing About Books Time Required: Approximately 4+ hours per week, plus 1-hour weekly online class time. UPDATED COURSE FORMAT: This course is offered as a hybrid model that blends asynchronous, interactive video lessons with live, text-based teacher meetings with the goal of meeting our students' various scheduling while better serving our auditory and visual learners. The time listed on the schedule is reserved for our OPTIONAL live Q&A session. How It Works: Each week, students will read the week's lesson and then access on-demand video lessons at the start of each week; these videos, recorded by our Home2Teach instructors, will guide students through a review of the focus skills for that week. After completing the video review, students will have the option to attend live "office hours" meetings with their teachers and fellow students. Course activities will take place in the Canvas learning management system. Lessons, course materials, requirements, and the revision process will remain the same.
